Remix Contest Guidelines

How to participate
Remix or mash-up digital video content to create short animations or videos on the theme “Britannia Rules, Britannia Sucks”. Your entry should be under three minutes in length and must be sumbitted before 12am GMT on the 12th of March .

Digital pictures, sound or films licensed under Creative Commons or in the public domain must be used, and can be combined with your original material if you wish. If you want to learn more about copyright in the UK  click here for a quick guide for remixers.

Theme
Entries should address the theme “Britannia Rules, Britannia Sucks”. You should interpret it creatively and illustratively, remixing historical, contemporary or original material to communicate the theme clearly and imaginatively.

Britannia Rules, Britannia Sucks
Britain: home of fish and chips – and of the battered Mars Bar. You can get real ale in a 14th-century pub, but don’t expect to drink there past bedtime. It’s been called the land of hope and glory, but to others it’s the land of embarrassment and breakfast.  Show the world what rocks your boat about Britain … and what you’d send overboard.

Submitting your film

All entries must be submitted using the online entry form provided by Google Video UK to upload your movie. The judges will be viewing and commenting on films for the duration of the contest, and it is possible that we will link to, and profile, certain entries as they come in.

Your movie should be as high resolution as possible and we’d prefer if you submit it in mpeg-4 (.MP4) or AVI format. In case your video editing software doesn’t support MP4 output, are acceptable. Remember: the winning entries will be screened, so you should have high quality versions, even if lower quality is sufficient for online viewing. If you are under 18 you must also send a consent form to Creative Commons UK: England and Wales.

By entering the contest you agree to license your movie as Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike (this license allows derivatives and sharing of content for non-commercial purposes) and to verify that the originals which you have transformed are legally available. If you’re unsure what these terms mean, check out the Mix&Mash Remix Guide or visit www.creativecommons.org.uk. Read the full rules for the contest.
